What is Cardiovascular disease?

Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer in the United States, but what exactly is this deadly disease? Cardiovascular disease is a class of diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels functions (i.e. damaging the blood vessels) commonly known as heart disease. As shown in the graph above this can lead to a number of diferent conditions which include coronary heart disease, valve disease as well as other.


Many of these conditions are related to a process called atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition that develops when plague builds up in the walls of the arties making it harder for blood to flow through by narrowing the arties. This in turn could possible lead to a heart attcka or even a stroke. But theres good news this is preventable with some lifestyle modficiations that can be made.
